Football analyst Robert Griffin III had high praise for New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye made waves in Thursday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 6 of 11 passes for 47 yards and scoring the first rushing touchdown of his NFL career.
Thursday’s performance was undoubtedly a step in the right direction for the rookie as he continues to adjust to the NFL level. He looked comfortable in the pocket and was able to read the ball quickly to get it to his receivers in a timely manner.
Griffin advocated for the former North Carolina star to start for New England as he analyzed his game on social media.
“The Patriots should use Drake Maye at quarterback because he gives their offense the playmaking ability it needs,” Griffin posted on social media. “Maye takes the pressure off the O-line with his movement in and out of the pocket, reads coverage and manipulates safeties well in the play, and gives them the best chance to score points and win in a division with 3 EXPLOSIVE OFFENSES.”

Maye turned heads with his performance on Thursday, especially his ability to get out of the pocket.
He also showed a strong ability to put the ball where only his receivers could reach it. Although it was only one game, there were certainly positives to take from this performance. It will be interesting to see how he builds on that in the final preseason game.
