Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney support Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager next season

Despite his miserable form, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag deserves to keep his job at the start of next season.

This is what Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney think, the two club legends who have pledged their support to the Dutchman ahead of a crucial summer at Old Trafford.

New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to oversee a restructuring on and off the pitch, with United having failed to regularly challenge for trophies since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson over a decade ago.

Ten Hag could reportedly be sacked after winning just one of his last eight Premier League games, a run that has seen the Red Devils eliminated from the European qualifying rounds due to a significant injury crisis.

“Personally, I hope they give him time because there are a lot of problems at the club,” Rooney told Sky Sports.

“The recruitment is huge and so far it hasn’t been good enough, so I think he’s getting the time to do it right.

“But we’ve been through this before, we won the cup final in 2016 and Louis van Gaal lost his job, so you never know.”

Keane added: “I hope he is given more time.”

United are expected to wait until after the end of the season at Wembley, with the FA Cup final against Manchester City later this month, before deciding whether to keep Ten Hag, who has a year left on his contract.

On Sunday, an improved performance in the home game against league leaders Arsenal was not enough to prevent a 1-0 defeat.
