Rubin didn’t play “Not Like Us” at White Party because of Drake

Drake attended Michael Rubin’s annual all-white Fourth of July Independence Day party in the Hamptons, and his presence had a direct impact on the party’s playlist.

Rubin confirmed The Breakfast Club that there was some truth to the rumors that Kendrick Lamar’s most successful Drake diss track “Not Like Us” was not allowed to be played at the party.

“Drake has been my friend for a long time,” said Fanatics CEO Rubin. “I’m not going to invite him and then, you know, he’s obviously going through a bit of a crisis right now. I’m not going to invite him there – I just didn’t think it was appropriate. So I just sent him a message and said, ‘Hey, let’s not play the music of someone who’s in a feud with someone there.'”

Rubin noted that Drake did not ask Rubin to stop the performance of “Not Like Us.”

“The day before, we had a little barbecue for a couple of hours that was supposed to be for thirty people, but then it turned into 200 people for about ten hours,” he added. “That was the prelude to the White Party. When they turned the music on, just like at my house, they played RapCaviar and ‘Not Like Us’ came on. It was right in the middle of ‘Not Like Us.’ I was like, ‘Turn that off! Turn that off!’ (Drake) was about to come on.”

Elsewhere this week, former US President Barack Obama caused a stir by removing “Not Like Us” from his 2024 summer playlist.
