After Team USA Ariana Ramsay and her teammates won a bronze medal in women’s rugby sevens, she benefited from some of the Olympic Village’s perks.
“Not only is there free food in the village, but there’s free dental and free healthcare,” Ramsay, 24, joked in a recent TikTok video that has since gone viral on social media. “I literally just got a free pap smear!”
Ramsay also booked a dentist appointment and an eye exam during her stay in the village.
“I love it here in the truest sense of the word,” she wrote under her upload. “That there is free healthcare in the Olympic Village, which is not the case in America.”
France, like many other European countries, offers universal healthcare. At each of her appointments, Ramsay has done a follow-up on her experience on TikTok.
“It’s crazy that I’m actually so excited about a free dental exam,” she mused earlier this week. “Um, this is going to be my new fight for survival. Free healthcare in America, period.”
After an eye examination, Ramsay was recommended to wear glasses.
“I can actually pick any pair I want (for free),” she said in another video recorded at the village’s polyclinic. “Guys, I’m really amazed.”
She continued, “There is no reason why I, as an American girl, should be so amazed about free health care. … Of course I’m amazed; we don’t have free health care in America. So, yes, I’m amazed about free health care.”
On Friday, August 9, Ramsay sent a message to “all (her) French supporters.”
“Would you please accept me as your American daughter,” she said. “So that I – an American girl – can get free health care. I will be good, I promise.”
Ramsay and her rugby teammates won their first Olympic bronze medal earlier this month. Since then, Ramsay has been sightseeing in Paris and cheering on other American athletes as they compete.
“Just a few successful rugby villains on holiday ✨,” Ramsay gushed on Instagram on Tuesday, August 6.
One of Ramsay’s teammates is Ilona Maherwho spoke with We weekly Earlier this week, she celebrated her victory and noted that the path to success did not leave much time to look for love.
“I was a little bit busy trying to win a medal,” 27-year-old Maher joked exclusively to Us. “Honestly, it was really crazy.”
Despite all the madness, Maher would rather leave the Games with shiny hardware than “go on a few dates.” Maher previously compared the Olympic Village to the Love Island Villa and realized that she wanted to find love with another competitor.
“I think people have realised (now) that everyone else in the villa is competing too, so it’s very hard to even meet people to go out and hang out with,” Maher joked. “We’re all focused on our games and then if we win, maybe we can have a bit of fun. So the Olympics aren’t over yet, but I’ve been a busy professional girl.”
