The Marbletown Volunteer Fire Department has filed a lawsuit against former fire chief William Storrs and his wife Nicole, accusing them of embezzling approximately $125,000 in fire department funds.
As the Finger Lakes Times reports, the lawsuit, filed Monday in state Supreme Court by Syracuse-based attorney Bradley Pinsky, alleges the couple used agency funds for personal expenses, including purchases at businesses, restaurants and even a down payment on a car.
William Storrs served as department chair from January until recently, after serving as treasurer beginning in 2020. Nicole Storrs took over as treasurer when William became chair and held that position until the end of July.
The alleged thefts occurred between 2021 and 2023, with the couple reportedly making unauthorized cash withdrawals and transfers from fire department accounts to their personal accounts.
