Ruto orders Sh100 million repair of Murang’a Kiria-ini road

Last year, however, the government allocated Sh594 million to complete the construction, providing some relief to the residents.

In addition, the President said that Sh1.1 billion had been allocated to restart construction of the stalled Sh30 billion Mau Mau road project linking Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Nyeri counties.

The project, which involves a different contractor in each county, stalled in 2022 due to lack of funds, and portions of the graded roads were damaged by bad weather.

In recent years, residents have appealed to the government to complete the project or release funds to rehabilitate the dilapidated parts and make the roads passable.

The road construction project began in 2019 with the aim of commemorating the Mau Mau fighters by improving the roads they used in and out of Aberdare Forest while fighting the colonialists.

“I will personally ensure that the contractors are back on site next month because the money has already been allocated,” Ruto said.

Once completed, the roads are expected to dramatically transform the economies of the areas they serve, which have long had poor road access despite their tranquil landscapes.

The President is also expected to commission the Ndunyu Chege Market and the Gatanga Water Supply Project in Gatanga Constituency before concluding his visit to Murang’a.
