Sauce Magazine – The best things we ate at the Festival of Nations in Tower Grove Park

More than 75 countries were represented at the annual international festival

We had a great time in Festival of Nations over the weekend, visiting hundreds of food, drink and retail stalls and sampling dishes and snacks from over 75 countries around the world. Here are just some of the best things we ate – some of them have restaurants in the area, so be sure to visit them if you didn’t see them at the festival.

Empanadas at Tango Argentina Food

The Argentinian restaurant based in St. Charles came with empanadas filled with tasty fillings like ham and cheese, spicy beef and spinach.

Mango Meatball Curry at Sameem Afghan Restaurant

Tender kofte in a curry sauce with a hint of mango, accompanied by light and fluffy rice and a warm sheet of naan, were the main attraction that Sameem served owner Fahime Mohammad and his crew.

Plantains stuffed with mozzarella at La Colombianita

We had to sit down after enjoying this dense, sweet and savory piece of plantain stuffed with mozzarella and guava from Colombian food truck La Colombianita.

Burmese tea leaf salad

This crisp, refreshing salad with tea leaves, cabbage, peanuts and more was probably the healthiest thing we ate at the Festival of Nations thanks to the Burmese stall.

Cochinita Pibil Tacos from El Molino del Sureste

The Northampton Restaurant appeared as a representative of Yucatan cuisine and the juicy achiote-citrus pork of this taco was rounded out by sour, crunchy pickled onions and habanero.

Satay in Tee Rak

We loved the delicious satay from Alada Poodtajan, a regular at the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market, and Tea Rak.
Juicy chicken pieces are marinated overnight, cooked to the perfect temperature in the sous vide cooker and grilled to order. Served with homemade peanut sauce, the skewers are the perfect snack on the go.
