Sauce Walka claims Drake is a culture vulture from Houston

First, Kendrick Lamar accused Drake of allegedly cashing in on Atlanta’s thriving hip-hop scene. Now, Sauce Walka is accusing the “First Person Shooter” rapper of not making enough use of Houston’s local talent.

Yesterday (13 August) at a performance on The Breakfast ClubSauce Walka accused Drake of being a culture vulture, more specifically, a devotee of the Houston sound. After host Charlamagne mentioned Tha God Drake (a longtime enemy of Walka), the two talked about his love for the city, which was recently highlighted by his purchase of a new $15 million estate.

“Why didn’t Drake have a lot of records with artists from Houston,” Walka said. “Did you do that with Atlanta? How could Drake love Houston so much back then and not have music with artists you highlight from that community? F*ck me. I don’t care. It’s bigger than me.”

Walka then made it clear that he sees Drake working with Bun B, Travis Scott or Beyoncé as genuine support for the city. “It’s about fair exchange in business (for Drake),” he said. “When you use someone’s lineage and the culture of the city or their hometown and their backyard, you’re doing something that’s not for you and your notoriety, but for your own benefit with the ladies and the people that you see in the city. Doing something that’s actually making the economy of their city and the music and musicians bigger and more awesome. That’s all I was saying. Not just for me, that’s for everybody.”

However, Walka’s statements have divided opinions among users of X (formerly Twitter).

“Sauce Walka is only talking about shit here,” wrote one user. “But we have to agree with him… Drake works with artists from Atlanta = colonizer. Drake does not colonize artists from other states = culture vulture.”

Others agreed with Walka’s emphasis that Drake was neglecting emerging artists. “Sauce said he wanted Drake to help emerging artists,” wrote another user“And you n**** keep shouting out Travis, Beyoncé and Bun B like they weren’t already who they were before Drake.”
