EAST WATERFORD – What better way to end a cardio and upper body workout than with a dollop of ice cream.
That’s exactly what’s being served at the Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services Corp. – Care Network’s Centers in Motion Chair Volleyball and Ice Cream Social on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Lack-Tuscarora EMS Building, 9320 Route 75 South, East Waterford.
“Chair volleyball is played every Tuesday at the Four Seasons Senior Center,” explained Beth Harlan, senior community services supervisor at MJRSC – The Care Network. “It’s very popular.”
In the past, members of the Four Seasons Senior Center of Mifflintown have traveled to Lack-Tuscarora EMS to show Coffee with Friends members how it’s played.
Harlan said they have enjoyed the fun and fast-paced game ever since.
“It’s an active game, good exercise, but it also brings a lot of laughter and conversation,” she explained. “I have played at the different locations and I have to say it is one of my favorites.
“I like watching the members play. They take it seriously, but there is always time for a hearty laugh,” she added.
The event is open to anyone age 55 and older. Beginners are welcome. The event is free, but donations are appreciated.
Upcoming events
Cash bingo and turkey dinner will be held Sunday, September 29, at the Lack-Tuscarora EMS building. Doors open at 11 a.m., dinner begins at 11:30 a.m. and bingo at 1 p.m. Admission is $30 per person, which includes dinner and nine bingo cards. Only 100 event tickets are available.
Centers in Motion’s bus trip to the movie “Hairspray” at the Dutch Apple Theater in Lancaster is scheduled for Thursday, October 10. All adults ages 55 and older in Mifflin and Juniata counties are invited. The cost is $84 per person, which includes admission, transportation and a meal. Payment must be made in advance.
