Serena Williams presents platinum blonde hair at the Olympics

There were plenty of stunning beauty looks at the Summer Olympics, and icon Serena Williams is no exception. Debuting in a stunning platinum blonde, Williams is officially testing the “blondes have more fun” theory for herself.

First seen in Paris at the Prelude to the Olympics Party in Louis Vuitton Foundation Ahead of the opening ceremony, the tennis superstar showed off her new radiant hairstyle that has us in a stranglehold. The waist-length mermaid waves feature a deep, Old Hollywood-inspired side part that adds effortless elegance and glamour.

“Serena’s new three-dimensional French vanilla blonde is a perfect example of how to add a chic element to blonde hair by adding depth at the roots,” says Renée Valerie, Head of Education at R+COLOR. “Platinum blonde shades are becoming increasingly popular and this look shows how to create a balanced version that beautifully highlights her features.”

Williams is used to switching up her look. Before going platinum blonde, our girl rocked a honey ombre with dark brown roots, and her natural color is a rich shade of black, so this bright blonde is a welcome surprise. Not to mention, it’s a gorgeous juxtaposition of Williams’ neutral cut and sparkly purple eyeshadow (pro tip: try to replicate this eyeshadow with Covergirl’s eyeshadow pencils).

How to achieve the look

Platinum blonde has become a very popular shade and is slowly becoming the new go-to blonde. With fall just around the corner, this shade is a great choice for a cooler tone that will complement the darker colors of the season.

When you head to the salon, ask your hairdresser for an icy platinum color to achieve Williams’ cool platinum tone. To recreate this style, Valerie likes to “start with classic highlights, followed by hand-painting in between, and then finish it off with a shadow base and a gloss coordinated with your guest’s base.”

Whether you bleach or tone your hair, it needs a little extra TLC to restore its full shine. Make sure you stock up on bonding and repair products that nourish each layer of hair and lock in moisture.
