Sexyy Red tells the background story of “Get It Sexyy”
On Wednesday (August 14), Sexyy Red celebrated the success of “Get It Sexyy” by sharing a story on Instagram about how the track came about.
“The night of filming ‘Get It Sexyy’ I was in a really bad place, just having my baby, being depressed and having postpartum issues,” she wrote under a carousel of photos and videos. “My team in Miami left me in the studio to write songs and I laid there crying and thinking about life… Finally I said, ‘Send me back to St. Louis so I can be with the people I love and find myself again!'”
The move ended up being the right decision. “Boom, I’m in St. Louis. I invite all my sisters and friends to my studio session. We had blunts, bottles, food and I came out with GET IT SEXYY GET IT SEXYY,” she continued. “It was really a confidence boost for me. I was so turned on, all my sadness was gone. I love my family, period. PS… I was monain in the song because my whore was behind me f***ing me while I was recording.”
In the post, Sexyy Red also shared video footage from the studio session in St. Louis, which she describes in her story and shows her dancing to the song with her friends.

“Get It Sexyy” is awarded gold
“Get It Sexxy” was released in March and is Sexyy Red’s most successful solo song to date. The song, produced by Tay Keith and Jake Fridkis, reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. On Tuesday (August 13), the song was certified gold by the RIAA.
