Shawnee Health celebrates National Health Center Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – National Health Center Week is taking place across the country and one facility in southern Illinois is showcasing its services.

Shawnee Health has held events throughout the week to highlight the important role community health centers play in improving public health.

Illinois State Senator Dale Fowler was on hand to give a tour of Shawnee Health’s Carbondale campus on Thursday, August 8.

Fowler said it is important to see firsthand the impact Shawnee Health and other health centers are having on the southern Illinois community.

“It was great to be here in Carbondale at Shawnee Health during National Health Center Week,” he said. “I really enjoy the opportunity to tour facilities like this throughout Southern Illinois. I get inside information right there on the ground. I get to talk to the staff and hear about their challenges, but also see all the new and exciting things happening in the healthcare industry.”

“National Health Center Week is an opportunity to celebrate the important role community health centers play in our communities,” added Christina Carney, CEO of Shawnee Health.

“At Shawnee Health, we are committed to providing high-quality, affordable care to all, and we are proud to be part of a network that reaches millions of Americans and ensures no one is left behind,” Carney said.

Health centers represent the largest primary care network in the country and serve 31.5 million patients nationwide.
