Skimmers in Louisiana steal thousands in federal EBT benefits

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) confirmed to the WAFB I-TEAM that multiple skimming incidents across Louisiana resulted in the recent theft of approximately $125,000 in federal benefits from EBT cards. The agency is working with multiple law enforcement agencies, as well as state and federal agencies, to stop the problem and prevent future theft.

According to a source familiar with the situation, internal emails were sent within the agency to try to stop the situation. According to the same source, DCFS has been aware of the problem for weeks.

A DCFS spokesperson issued the following statement detailing the steps they have taken to address the issue.

Anyone affected by the recent thefts is asked to contact DCFS directly via email at [email protected]. Potential EBT fraud can also be reported by phone at 1-888-LAHELPU (1-888-524-3578).
