Snapchat took 13 years to develop a native iPad app; now it’s finally here

Snapchat has finally introduced native support for iPads, 13 years after its launch on iOS. Until now, iPad users had to make do with the iPhone version of the app, which displayed large black borders and did not provide an optimal experience. With the new update, the app can take full advantage of the iPad’s larger screen and offer users a more immersive experience.

The update means Snapchat now fills the entire screen on iPads, has a larger canvas for taking Snaps, and allows users to view more friends on certain tabs, improving the app’s usability.

However, the app is not yet fully optimized for tablets, as it currently only supports portrait mode and lacks landscape functionality. This limitation may impact the user experience, but Snapchat is expected to continue refining the app for better performance on iPads.

Instagram has yet to release a native iPad app, but Snapchat’s latest update gives the company a competitive advantage and could potentially prompt Meta to develop a native app for the platform, especially for users who prefer larger screens for consuming and creating content.

Overall, 13 years after its iOS debut, Snapchat is finally releasing a native iPad app that offers a full-screen experience and AI features. Download now from the App Store.
