Snoop Dogg praises Kendrick Lamar for promoting gang unity in LA after fight with Drake

Snoop Dogg is one of Kendrick Lamar’s biggest West Coast elders in the rap game and he couldn’t be prouder of his “institutionalized” collaborator. He also said in a recent interview with Complex along with Dr. Dre, he talked about K.Dot’s recent “The Pop Out” event (which featured Dre as a guest) and how it promoted unity among all of Los Angeles’ gangs. In particular, Tha Doggfather responded to Vince Staples’ recent comments about how this peace process was in place long before this Juneteenth show, which came after Kendrick’s feud with Drake. Still, Snoop explained how the former TDE lyricist made this solidarity even more popular.

“What Vince is saying is that a lot of neighborhoods have been coming together behind closed doors for a long time,” Snoop Dogg noted. “But what Kendrick did was he united the whole city because he’s a king. He took this violent situation that is a rap dispute and created peace and gave the homies the opportunity to come on stage, be part of his video, be part of his movement and move like he does.”

“Because if you wanna keep up with Kendrick, you gotta move like Kendrick,” Snoop Dogg continued. “He represents peace. He represents love. He’s not from a gang. He comes from a city full of gangs and he unites cities. That’s what it was about. It’s a good step for the whole West Coast culture when it comes to rap, because violence has always been a major theme for us. So if you can take a violent rap or a violent song and create peace out of it, you should applaud him for it.”

“This shit makes me emotional,” said Kendrick Lamar while on stage with representatives of many different gangs at “The Pop Out.” “Ever since Nipsey (Hussle) died, we’ve been fucked. Ever since Kobe (Bryant) died, we’ve been fucked. This is unity at its best. We lost a lot of buddies to this music shit, to this street shit. For us all to be on stage together is special. Everybody on this stage has fallen soldiers.”
