‘Stranger Things’ actor Gaten Matarazzo says the show’s end date causes him ‘deep anxiety’

Stranger Things Actor Gaten Matarazzo has explained why the show’s end date “scares” him.

The Netflix series, created by the Duffer brothers, will end with its fifth season, which will begin filming later this year.

Matarazzo has grown up in the series and has played Dustin since the very first episode in 2016.

Reflecting on his experience, he told Jimmy Fallon on Monday (March 20): “It’s something that is so important to all of us and was crucial to my development throughout my teenage years and into my twenties.”

“It’s the defining aspect of the last ten years of my life, practically the last decade.”

Although Matarazzo is glad that the show is coming to an end and not lasting too long, he admits that the farewell is “bittersweet.”

It’s kind of exciting because you always want an ending and you want to see the characters develop one last time and how they finish their journey,” he said.

Here Matarazzo revealed that he was afraid of having to return to the drudgery of searching for new roles.

“But there is also a deep fear. Not only was it great, but it also gave me a lot of job security for quite a while. Back to freelancing!”

David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper in the series, recently said it was “definitely” time to end the show.

“The funny thing is, when I started the show, I never wanted it to end. That’s why I love the show. I think it’s a great show even though I wasn’t on it,” he said.

“It’s now almost nine years until we filmed the first season and I think it’s time to end it.

Stranger Things ends in 2025.
