And this treasure hunt is largely thanks to Redditors. The Reddit community has stumbled upon some of the series’ most brilliant details that no one else noticed. From the cool IT Easter egg in Stranger Things 2 to the discovery that the rainbows in half of the rainbow room in season 4 are upside down, Stranger Things Fan accounts on Reddit have revealed some really awesome details.
One of the most popular Stranger Things Fan accounts titled StrangerThings recently revealed a detail about Millie Bobby Brown‘s character, Eleven. This detail was noticed in Season 2, Episode 3, in the scene where Eleven and David Harbour’s character Hopper were setting up their new hideout in the fortified cabin in the woods. During the scene, Hopper was seen playing Jim Croce’s “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim,” which visibly baffled Eleven. This led Redditors to believe that perhaps Eleven was hearing music for the first time.

Eleven was locked up in Hawkins Labs her entire childhood, which made this theory all the more believable. However, this theory contains some inaccuracies. When Eleven first went out to get something to eat, Benny had a radio on, and it’s possible that she listened to the music while she was staying with the Wheelers. These facts sparked a debate among Reddit users who tried to get to the bottom of the cause of Eleven’s stunned reaction to Hopper singing “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim.”
Reddit users have come up with various explanations for Eleven’s unusual reaction, and surprisingly, each theory has some validity.

Many fans agreed with the speculation that Eleven may have never heard music before, while others said it was Hopper’s dance that surprised them. They said it was “just a little girl learning what music and dance are.” However, some fans felt that El had heard music before but did not know “Rock music.“ Seeing someone dance to it, “especially someone who is normally stoic, like Hopper”, was the main reason for their surprise.
