At the 2024 Met Gala on Monday, Sydney Sweeney swapped her signature blonde hairstyle for a sleek black bob – at least just for the evening.
The “Anyone but You” star walked down the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a jet-black wig cut into a bob with bangs. The wig was created by hairstylist Glen Oropeza. Sweeney was almost unrecognizable as she debuted a hairstyle that looked very different from her usual blonde hair and natural glam. Before walking onto the Met Gala red carpet, Sweeney unveiled her new hairstyle with a sheer crystal veil made up of over 2,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals that were custom-made by Jennifer Behr.
To shape the wig, Oropeza cut it to bob length with bangs that floated just above Sweeney’s eyes after securing it to her head with bobby pins. He then added textured waves to the piece using a flat iron. To give the wig its high-shine black finish, Oropeza finished with Kerastase Elixir Ultime L’Huile Original Hair Oil and set the waves with Kerastase Laque Extrême.
Although Sweeney brought a bit of vixen to the red carpet, she stayed true to the evening’s theme of “The Garden of Time” with a floral ensemble – based on the museum’s Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion.” The Euphoria icon wore a powder blue Cinderella-inspired dress with sheer romantic sleeves and a full skirt by Miu Miu.
Additionally, her longtime makeup artist Melissa Hernandez created a soft glam look with black eyeliner just below the tip of her bangs and a bright baby pink blush on her cheeks. To prep the skin, Hernandez used the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask, Cream Skin Toner and Moisturizer and Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturizer, all from Laneige.
While today’s transformation is only temporary, Sweeney recently showed off a major hair change for this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party, cutting her long blonde locks into an old Hollywood-style bob. For now, it looks like Sweeney will keep that length, albeit in her signature blonde shade.
