This week, enjoy a night of music, food, art and fun at the Take Me to the River Festival in Fall River. There will also be concerts, art exhibits and classes, as well as the opportunity to get outside and explore the natural beauty of Westport.

So when someone asks you what you want to do, you already have your plans ready.

Here are the things to do this week around Fall River, the South Shore and beyond:

Take me to the River Festival at Sen. Thomas Norton City Pier in Fall River

Get ready for an evening of music, food, art and fun at the Take Me to the River Festival at the Sen. Thomas Norton City Pier, 600 Davol St., Fall River.

Presented by the Narrows Center for the Arts, the Take Me to the River Festival will take place on Saturday, August 24th, from 4-10 p.m.

Admission is free.

Food and drinks are available for purchase. Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The festival will feature Grammy winner Dave Alvin and Grammy nominee Jimmie Dale Gilmore with The Guilty Ones. Also performing are Cracker and Vanessa Collier.

Upcoming concerts at the Narrows Center for the Arts

Some concerts will take place at the Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Award winner Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna will perform on Wednesday, August 21 from 8-10 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $58 in advance and $60 day of the show. Tickets can be found online at https://tinyurl.com/2efe9nrv.

The Jerry Douglas Band will be there on Thursday, August 22nd from 8-10pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $53 in advance and $55 day of the show. Tickets can be found online at https://tinyurl.com/5aezbr3d.

Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition presents the exhibition “Take Me to the River”

There is a new exhibition at The Ignition Space, 44 Troy St.

The Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition presents “Take Me to the River,” bringing together a diverse group of artists to explore, respect and educate about the importance of our waterways.

This exhibition features Diana Arvanites, Alyn Carlson, Alma Cummings, Corrinn Jusell, Chris Page, Heather Stivison and soundscapes by Scott Bishop.

The exhibition runs until August 25th.

This curated exhibition, led by Arvanites, consists of multimedia artworks that bring the community together around the concept of flow.

The Ignition Space is free to enter and open Thursday to Friday from 4pm to 8pm and Saturday to Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.

FRACC supports this exhibition through the Ignition Project, made possible by the TDI Creative Catalyst Grant Program, managed by MassDevelopment, and funded by the Barr Foundation.

Drawing class for children at the New Bedford Art Museum

A drawing class for children will be held at the New Bedford Art Museum, 608 Pleasant St., on Saturday, August 24, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Children aged 7 to 12 learn different drawing techniques; lessons are based on an exhibition or the themes of the month.

The cost is $36 for members and $40 for non-members.

Sonata Saturday with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra

The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra presents Sonata Saturday, which takes place every fourth Saturday of the summer month.

This month’s Sonata Saturday will be August 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a performance by a small group of NBSO musicians in the Drawing Room, 22 William St., New Bedford.

This free concert series includes special events at each performance.

Laura Shamu (oboe) and Maria Spraker (harp) will perform at the concert on August 24th.

Trail Explorers in Westport: Spring Water

Trail Explorers will visit Headwaters Conservation Area in Westport, 187 Blossom Road, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, August 23.

The area encompasses 145 acres around the headwaters of Bread and Cheese Brook, and 2 ½ miles of trails parallel the creek and pass through pine and hardwood trees.

The event is free of charge.

Summer walk along Dunham’s Brook in Westport

Enjoy Dunham’s Brook Nature Preserve, 1520 Main Road, Westport, any time of year.

On Saturday, August 24th, there will be a summer walk there from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Look for late meadow flowers and listen to the sounds of nature.

The event is free of charge.

Puddingstone music series: “Families in motion”

The Puddingstone Music Series continues with “Families in Motion” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, at St. Columba’s Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown.

This event for families and children offers a wide variety of music, dance and acrobatic performances.

If the weather is good, the event will take place outdoors on the grounds and in the chapel.

John Lindsay (saxophone), Colescott Rubin (bass and unicycle) and Katie Moorhead (dance) will join Puddingstone founder and pianist Clemens Teufel.

There is unicycling, a dance workshop, a sing-along event and an instrument petting zoo.

The event is free of charge. Food and drinks will be provided.
