Taylor Swift’s film “Eras Tour” celebrates free premiere in Austria after cancelled shows

Taylor Swift’s concert film “Eras Tour” premiered for free in Austria over the weekend after all three of the pop star’s concerts in Vienna were cancelled due to a foiled terrorist attack.

Disney+ has partnered with Austrian cable broadcaster ORF to air “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” live on Austrian television on August 10, one of the nights Swift would have performed live. In an Instagram post, Disney+ also said it will offer a seven-day free trial to Swifties who want to watch the concert film over the next week.

The premiere was a small treat for the devastated fans who had also gathered in large crowds on the streets of Vienna to exchange friendship bracelets – a staple of Swift’s shows – and sing her songs.

Swift herself has not yet commented on the tragic turn of events.

The pop star is expected to perform five shows at London’s Wembley Stadium starting August 15. Authorities have said the shows will take place under increased security measures.

So far, three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the foiled terrorist attack that led to the cancellation of the shows in Vienna on August 8, 9 and 10.

The main suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen, and a 17-year-old were arrested last Tuesday. Authorities found evidence linking both to the terrorist group Islamic State. Police found bomb-making materials in the 19-year-old’s house. They also discovered that the 17-year-old had found a job at the venue – the Ernst Happel Stadium – where Swift’s three Austrian concerts were to take place.

The 19-year-old confessed to planning to “kill as many people as possible outside the concert grounds,” authorities said.

According to the Associated Press, Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said an 18-year-old was also arrested on Thursday for allegedly having contact with the main suspect in the case.

While police said the latest suspect was not directly involved in planning the possible terrorist attack, he nevertheless swore an oath of allegiance to ISIS.

Investigators told the AP that they are combing through the suspects’ “networks” and are also evaluating physical and electronic evidence in a statement. A 15-year-old was also questioned but not arrested.

In accordance with Austrian data protection regulations, no suspects were named.
