As Bangladesh and Pakistan prepare to face each other in their upcoming Test series starting on August 21 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, it is not the players or the match itself that has caused excitement but the ticket prices announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Ticket prices are remarkably low, with the cheapest ones costing just 15 rupees (50 PKR), roughly the price of a samosa.
Internet users are excited about ticket prices
This unique pricing strategy quickly became a hot topic on social media platforms, especially on X, where users playfully compared the cost to that of everyday items. One viral comment highlighted the affordability in a humorous way: “Itne ka toh idhar 1 samosa aata hai.”

The PCB’s decision is aimed at making Test cricket more accessible to the masses, especially in light of recent home series defeats against Australia and England. Pakistan captain Shan Masood stressed that the team needs to redefine its playing identity to achieve better results in the upcoming matches.

In contrast, ticket prices for Test matches vary considerably around the world. For example, for the India-England Test match earlier this year, ticket prices ranged from Rs 200 to Rs 1,500 per day, with premium options costing up to Rs 16,000 for season tickets.
In England, the cost of attending a Test match, especially top series like the Ashes, has now risen significantly. A report by the Guardian last year found that the cheapest Ashes ticket at the Oval cost £105 (approximately ₹9,600), while the most expensive ticket at Lord’s cost £170 (approximately ₹15,500), reflecting rising running costs.
