Texas A&M Aggies RB Rueben Owens is expected to be out with a lower leg injury

It seems like the Texas A&M Aggies have already been hit by an injury spree this season, and not a single play has been called yet.

On Sunday afternoon, it was announced that Texas A&M running back Rueben Owens suffered a lower leg injury and is expected to be out for several months.

Owens was considered a breakout prospect in 2024 and was overjoyed to be part of Collin Klein’s offensive plan. Now it seems Owens will have to wait a little longer for his work to pay off.

Unfortunately, the Aggies are all too familiar with injuries. Just before the start of the 2023 season, tight end Donovan Green tore his ACL and was out for the entire year. The Aggies had four different quarterbacks last year as the team was plagued by injury after injury.

First, Conner Weigman injured his lower leg against Auburn, then Max Johnson injured the thumb of his throwing hand against Mississippi State, and then Jaylen Henderson injured his arm on the Aggies’ first offensive play in the bowl game against Oklahoma State. Fortunately, Marcel Reed was able to finish the game and Weigman and Henderson are both ready to play in 2024.

In a crowded backfield where he had to share the runs with Le’Veon Moss, Amari Daniels and an occasional quarterback draw, Owens was able to carry his weight when the ball was handed to him. For the entire season, Owens ran the ball 101 times, racking up 385 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He was also useful as a receiver, catching 12 passes for 109 yards.

Aggie fans are hoping this is the only injury they have to worry about this season as the season gets closer with each passing second. Injuries at this point could mean the season being canceled and that’s simply a risk Texas A&M cannot afford to take.
