The 10 best SMU Mustangs basketball players of all time

A versatile forward, Ojeleye was a key player for SMU’s 2017 NCAA Tournament team. He was named AAC Sixth Man of the Year and later played in the NBA.

The diminutive point guard was a two-time AAC Player of the Year and led SMU to the 2014 National Invitation Tournament and the 2015 NCAA Tournament. He played a key role in the program’s revival under the leadership of Larry Brown.

A dynamic point guard and SMU’s all-time leading assist player, Hopkins was twice named All-Conference USA and led the Mustangs to the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

A steady defender and efficient scorer, Ross was a four-year starter and helped SMU reach the NCAA tournament in 2003. He had a long NBA career with several teams.

A powerful forward, Terrell was a two-time All-SWC selection who helped lead SMU to the 1976 NCAA Tournament before going on to have a successful NBA career with the Phoenix Suns.

Davis is a prolific scorer and ranks seventh on SMU’s all-time scoring list. He was a key factor in the Mustangs’ success in the mid-1980s.

The 7-foot-4 center was a dominant force in the penalty box and led the nation in blocked shots in 1984. Koncak was an NBA first-round draft pick and his presence helped SMU basketball achieve great success in the 1980s.

A versatile guard known for his scoring and defense, Sasser led SMU to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in the late 1990s. He is the only Mustang to win the WAC Player of the Year award twice.

The accurate guard is SMU’s all-time leading scorer with an astonishing 2,834 points. Phillips, who was named an All-American in 1971, has his jersey hanging in the rafters of Moody Coliseum.

The 6’0″ center was a three-time All-American and led the Mustangs to the 1956 Final Four. Krebs, selected first in the 1957 NBA Draft, is arguably the best player in SMU history.
