The 27th Annual Children’s Day brings free resources to Cross

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – An annual event in Cross brought vital resources and support to residents and their families Thursday.

The 27th annual Kids’ Day event at Cross High School was organized by the nonprofit organization Communities Helping to Encourage Change in Kids in partnership with the Cross Community Center.

With the help of dozens of vendors, this year’s event offered free products, medical screenings, family services and college information to youth and families of Cross and surrounding communities.

The nonprofit’s founder, Theresa Prioleau, emphasized the importance of joint community efforts.

“Often we find that there are a lot of resources that a lot of people don’t know about,” Prioleau said. “So my job 27 years ago was to bring those resources to this area so our people have the opportunity to learn about them and use them.”

The nonprofit organization’s goal is to create positive change in eight rural communities where Cross High School and Cross Elementary School are located.

Over the past 27 years, Kids’ Day has grown and attracted hundreds of participants.

Organizers serve neighboring rural communities such as Eadytown, Pineville, St. Stephens, Pringletown, Ridgeville, Eutawville and Holly Hill with limited resources.

Organizers were also excited to discuss new additions to the community center thanks to the Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce.

These additions include new computers, upgrades to the center’s classrooms, high-speed internet and more.

The new community center is intended to provide lasting resources and support to this rural area.
