The 5 best things to do around Tallahassee this weekend

Punk rock is alive again.

Longtime Tallahassee music fans will remember the punk bands of the 1980s on We Can’t Help It If We’re From Florida, a classic punk compilation that put the Sunshine State on the hardcore map in 1983. It is being reissued for the first time in 41 years in a limited edition expanded 10-inch vinyl format.

According to a press release, the reissue, originally a 7″ EP, will include ten bonus tracks, many of them previously unreleased, from each of the five bands on the original release: Hated Youth (Tallahassee), Sector 4 (Tallahassee), Morbid Opera (Fort Lauderdale), Roach Motel (Gainesville) and Rat Cafeteria (Tampa). The reissue is a joint release between Destroy Records and Panhandle Punk Productions and includes a press run of 500 black copies and 100 on “Florida Sunshine” colored vinyl.

Look for the 41 in Florida’s independent record storesst anniversary edition, released last weekend. The 2024 edition also includes liner notes by Florida punk historian Bob Suren (Sound Idea/Burrito Records) and Jeff Hodapp (Roach Motel/Morbid Opera/Destroy Records).
