Which cards shine the brightest in the Shimmering Skies Lorcana set?

If you’re looking for something new to build or just want to keep an eye out for the best cards in the set, we’ve got all of the best Shimmering Skies cards in one place for you. As the hype around the set has continued to grow with its unique action cards and some really powerful abilities, these are the cards you’ll want to keep an eye on.

10 Madam Mim, Elephant

You can have this damage

Lorcana Madam Mim Elephant by Kenneth Anderson-1

Madam Mim, Elephant is a fascinating card in Shimmering Skies. It continues the damage shift theme that has been steadily gaining traction in Amethyst over the last few sets.

Madam Mim has been a solid meta choice for Lorcana players lately, and this elephant version of her follows the same pattern of sending another character back to your hand when you play her. With some solid stats and the ability to hold up, Madame Mim may have gained a new gameplay element.

9 Revitalize

An amber return

Lorcana Revive by Jare Matthews-1

This five-cost, non-colorable Amber action seems pretty simple at first. It lets you play a character card with a cost of five or less from your discard pile for free. You also have to remember that when you play a card this way, you still get any effects that trigger when they enter the battlefield, allowing you to double up on certain effects and abilities.

The downside to this card is that you need to have something valuable in your discard pile for it to really do anything. That means that by the time you can play Revive, around your fourth or fifth turn, you’ll probably be able to bring back anything from a Rapunzel, Gifted with Healing to a Beast, Tragic Hero

8 Clarabelle, light on her hooves

The Ball Queen

Lorcana Clarabelle Light on her hooves by Jennifer Park and Livio Caccitore-1

Not everyone will know Clarabelle, and that’s okay, because her card will soon make sure more people know this classic Disney character. Clarabelle, Light on her Hooves is a legendary emerald character that has a very solid ability that triggers at the end of your turn.

The best looking versions of your favorite characters don’t come cheap.

If an opponent has more cards in hand than you, you can draw cards to make your hand match. Clarabelle’s cost holds her back a bit, as 7 is a bit expensive. You can move her for 5, but even then she doesn’t fit well into typical Emerald archetypes.

7 Elsa, the fifth ghost

Packed with keywords

Lorcana Else The Fifth Spirit by Lisanne Koeteeuw-1

Elsa is one of the most popular Disney characters from the more recent film era, so it’s no surprise that she has a ton of powerful cards that keep her at the top of the game. This Amethyst Elsa is a tattooable five-drop card that has both Rush and Evasive, allowing her to defeat other evasive characters on the turn she comes out.

With a Willpower of five, she can also take a hit or two before succumbing to challenges. This is great when combined with her Crystallization ability, which she uses to strain an opponent’s character and open up virtually anything in the game to attack.

6 Robin Hood, Sharpshooter

He never misses

Lorcana Robin Hood Sniper by Federico Maria Cugliari-1

This card could be one of the surprise hits in Shimmering Skies. For four cards, Robin Hood, Sharpshooter lets you look at the top four cards of your deck whenever he performs a quest. If you find an action card there that costs six or less, you can play it for free.

Of course, the rest of the cards go to the discard pile, but if you get Dragon Fire, Revive, or even A Whole New World for free and also get two Lore from the quest, this is a fantastically versatile card. This Robin Hood is a little weak with only one strength, but with four Willpower, he’ll probably survive a turn or two.

5 Anna, Diplomatic Queen

Versatility is her middle name

Lorcana Anna Diplomatic Queen by Dylan Bronner and Celeste Jamneck-1

Some of the best cards in Lorcana are the ones that give you options, and Anna, Diplomat Queen gives you three very good choices to choose from when she comes into play. With her Royal Resolve ability, Anna lets you pay two more inks to either make an opponent discard a card, give some +2 power, or completely banish an already damaged character.

Not to mention, this also gives you a 2/3 character that allows you to play him early on an aggressive board or hold him back for a bigger turn later.

4 Merlin, intellectual visionary

Everything in your deck belongs to you

Lorcana Merlin Intellectual Visionary by Jake Parker-1

What Lorcana has been missing is a card that lets you search everything in your deck, and Merlin, Intellectual Visionary finally makes that possible. This six-cost, non-inkable card can be swapped for five inks, allowing you to make even better use of the cheaper Merlins, like his Goat and Rabbit iterations.

Moving Merlin is important because it’s the only way to use his Overevolved Brain ability. Moving Merlin allows you to search your deck for any card and put it into your hand, which is pretty good considering you also get a 3/7 that can pick out two Lores as well.

3 Daisy Duck, Donald’s Date

Lorcana Daisy Duck Donald's Date by Francesco Dippolito and Giuseppe di Maio-1

One drop characters are some of the most sought after, Lorcana and Daisy Duck, Donald’s Date is just another one to add to that list. For just one ink you get a highly efficient quester that allows you to run two Lore quests while sitting with a 1/4 body.

This one-ink slot is a bit much for Amber, but Daisy Duck might be the best release yet. The downside to Daisy is that if you go questing with her, your opponent may be able to draw a card, as each opponent has revealed the top card of their pile and if it’s a character they can add it to their hand. Interestingly, if the revealed card isn’t a character, it’s thrown to the bottom of their pile without them actually getting any information about what they’re drawing next.

2 Prince Naveen, ukulele player

It will be a very long song

Lorcana Prince Naveen Ukulele player by Rosa la Barbera and Livio Caccitore-1

It’s better to play two cards than just one, and when you get the second card for free and it can cost up to two times more than Prince Naveen, Ukulele Player, this catapults the Prince to one of the best cards in the set.

When Prince Naveen is played, his “It’s Beautiful, No?” ability lets you play a song costing 6 or less for free. You can get “And Along Came Zeus,” “A Whole New World,” or “Be King Undisputed” for free. He also sings for 6, which is a huge amount for a card costing four.

1 Mufasa, ruler of Pride Rock

A true monarch

Lorcana Mufasa, ruler of Pride Rock by Jeanne Plounevez-1

There’s a lot going on with this Mufasa, Ruler of Pride Rock, and it’s all incredibly good. For eight ink, you get a 4/9 character that can complete an impressive four lore quests. Even better, when this Mufasa comes into play, you get to randomly return two cards from his inkwell to your hand. During the random selection, you get two cards back, which can help refill your hand later in the game.

On your next turn, when you can quest with Mufasa, his ability “Everying the Light Touches” will trigger, which will ready all the cards in your Inkwell. So on your turn, you can play a six- or seven-card Ink card, search for four cards, and then potentially play another six- or seven-card card again, giving you tremendous value over two turns.
