The cheapest (and most expensive) British coastal towns to move to

Do you dream of living by the sea? Rightmove has revealedlisted the cheapest and most expensive coastal cities to move to in the UK.

A study of more than 200 coastal areas across the country found that Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset, is the most expensive area, with an average asking price of £1,582,331. Canford Cliffs in Poole is the second most expensive area (£1,242,181) and Milford-on-Sea in Hampshire is in third place (£751,442).

The cheapest place, however, was the popular holiday resort of Saltcoats in Ayrshire, where houses cost an average of just £122,520. Easington in County Durham is the second cheapest place at £122,520 and Peterlee in County Durham is the third cheapest place at £124,593.

“At this time of year in particular, many people are thinking about what a home by the sea, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, might look like, or perhaps browsing estate agents’ shop windows while on holiday,” says Tim Bannister, property expert at Rightmove.

Steve Isaacs, director at Luxury and Prestige Realty in Poole, added: “The first half of the year has been positive for us, despite mortgage rates remaining high and the election looming. The Sandbanks and Canford Cliffs areas continue to be very popular and prime waterfront properties in Sandbanks have performed particularly well.

“For those who can, the lifestyle in a beautiful seaside location is always appealing and should not be underestimated.”
