The city of Fort Wayne offers a handful of cooling centers

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (21Alive) – For people without air conditioning, the heat can be dangerous.

As long as temperatures remain above 90 degrees, cooling centers will be offered to the public free of charge.

Locations include the Rescue Mission, Allen County Public Library Downtown, the Botanical Conservatory, and several other locations.

Citilink buses also serve as mobile cooling stations. Anyone with a valid ticket can ride the buses to cool off.

“We want to be known as a caring and generous community, and these are the days when we need to step up and show that we care about people and families who are facing challenges or problems. It’s not their fault. We want to be there for them and provide them with safe shelter during extreme heat,” said John Perlich, director of public information for the City of Fort Wayne.
