The COTREX Trail app is a resource for exploring Colorado’s outdoors and now includes hourly fire warnings

Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommends outdoor recreationists use the Colorado Trail Explorer (COTREX) mobile app to learn about current fire warnings before heading out.

Due to the recent increase in fire activity in Colorado, COTREX is temporarily increasing the frequency of wildfire updates from once daily to once hourly to keep the public informed of the current situation in the state.

The COTREX app is a free app that provides information on trails from local, state and federal agencies. According to CPW, more than 236 land managers have contributed data on 45,076 miles of trails across the state.

COTREX also works with land managers, parks and open spaces to ensure that the information on the platform comes from a reliable, trusted source.

According to CPW, more than 36 agency partners use the COTREX app to publish real-time alerts, including wildfire closures, safety hazards and other important trail warnings.

COTREX also lists wildfire and controlled fire warnings from sources such as Inciweb. and the National Interagency Fire CenterAlerts will automatically appear on the website and app, providing descriptions, limits, and links to additional resources where available.

The app also allows users to plan routes, view permitted uses such as walking, biking and OHV, download offline maps and view travel recommendations from participating partners across the state.
