“The First Shadow” brings Hawkins, Indiana to Broadway

play

Broadway is about to be turned upside down.

A play based on “Stranger Things,” the hit Netflix series set in Hawkins, Indiana, is coming to the U.S. after a successful run in London’s West End.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a prequel to the Netflix series and was written by Kate Trefry, a writer and co-executive producer of the TV series. The Duffer Brothers, with whom Trefry worked on the original story, are credited as creative producers on the piece.

Other activities: Television and Broadway stars such as Malcolm-Jamal Warner will perform at The Cabaret

The Olivier Award-winning show will premiere at the Marquis Theatre in New York on March 28, 2025, and will have a preview performance until its premiere on April 22.

Set in Hawkins in 1959, the play is described on the show’s website as follows: “Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister doesn’t take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and disappear. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family discovers that starting over isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past linger.”
