In brief

  • A new floating popup was discovered in the beta version of the Google app 15.34.32.29.arm64.
  • This keyboard shortcut allows the user to quickly repeat their last search query without having to retype it.
  • The popup will only be displayed for a few seconds and can be closed manually if it is not needed.

In addition to launching its most polished flagship phones yet, Google is also constantly experimenting with new features to improve Google Search. One such feature designed to simplify repetitive searches could soon be coming to the Google app.

A APK teardown helps predict features that might be built into a service in the future based on code in progress. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it into a public release.

During our recent fiddling around with the Google app 15.34.32.29.arm64 beta, we came across a new floating popup shortcut that is currently hidden under flags. The premise here is quite simple. When users perform a search via the Google app or from the search bar on the Pixel Launcher home screen, the Google app displays the same search query as a rounded popup, as seen in the video below.

The popup is only there for a few seconds and can be dismissed with a tap, making it both convenient and unobtrusive. This quick shortcut can be especially useful in scenarios where users are multitasking, get interrupted in the middle of a search, or simply want to quickly return to a previous query without retyping it.

Currently, this feature is only available in the beta version of the Google app, but since it can improve the user experience, we can expect it to be made available to the public in the near future.
