The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (ICO) will once again bring music to the parks of Indianapolis this September.

The free concerts, in partnership with Indy Parks with support from the National Bank of Indianapolis and the Penrod Society, will take place on September 4 in Garfield Park, September 5 in Riverside Park and September 6 in Holliday Park. The ICO will perform a selection of classics, Broadway hits and performances by the Global Prep Academy Bilingual Choir and the Indianapolis Suzuki Academy.

The first concert, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. on September 4 at the MacAllister Amphitheatre in Garfield Park, will also be the ICO’s first of the year. Students from the Indianapolis Suzuki Academy will join the orchestra on stage to perform works by Chevalier, Rossini and Schubert, as well as Cole Porter (“Night and Day”) and Henry Mancini (“The Pink Panther”). The concert will also include sections from Bernstein’s West Side Story and a Broadway medley called “Curtain Up!”

The next concert, on September 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Riverside Park, will include the same repertoire, plus Filhos Cidade Maravilhosa featuring students from Global Prep Academy. In celebration of Brazilian independence in September, the ICO will also perform Barroso’s “Brazil.”

At the September 6 concert, which will take place at 7 p.m. in Holliday Park, ICO students will join the Indianapolis Suzuki Academy. Audience members will also be treated to a “yoga break” during the performance of Invoke Yoga to Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.”

This concert also includes the aforementioned works by Rossini and Schubert, tributes to Cole Porter and Henry Mancini, excerpts from Bernstein’s “West Side Story” and “Curtain Up” – a piece that pays tribute to such Broadway hits as “There’s No Business like Show Business,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”

Admission to the concerts is free. Reservations can be made at icomusic.org, where you can get up-to-date weather reports. For more information, visit ICO’s social media pages, website, or call 317-940-9607.
