The Barbershop Bash will take place on Saturday, August 24th at Webb’s Barbershop. The shop is located at 401 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive in Baton Rouge.

During the event there will be free prostate and colon cancer screenings, educational resources, food, music and activities for children.

“We are so proud to host this important event in partnership with Webb’s Barbershop, which has been a staple in Baton Rouge for decades,” said Renea Duffin, vice president of cancer services and education at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “We encourage everyone to come and take advantage of these life-saving cancer screenings. We know that early detection is incredibly important when it comes to treating cancer and improving health. This event could literally save your life.”

The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the importance of cancer screenings, organizers said, especially for African-American men.

According to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, approximately one in eight men will be diagnosed with colon cancer during their lifetime. If the cancer is detected early, the five-year survival rate is 91 percent.
