The new Go Granville app is a central point of contact for warnings and announcements

The Town of Granville now has a mobile app that provides a one-stop shop for anyone wanting to receive weather and traffic updates, as well as regular announcements and calendar events.

The GoGranville app is currently in development and is currently available for free in app stores, but Village Manager Herb Koehler said the goal is to have it completed and fully functional by the planned official launch on September 1.

“It’s designed for local governments,” he said. “It will include a notification module for things like construction alerts or a burst water pipe. We’re also building in a request module so residents can report things like potholes or fallen trees.”

You can also use the app to sign up for emergency alerts, such as those currently sent via SMS, email and telephone in the event of severe weather.

Koehler said village officials’ goal is to consolidate their communications with residents and other interested parties on the GoGranville app “and eventually eliminate our Facebook account” as well as the village’s contract with the company that currently sends emergency alerts to those who have signed up for it.

“We hope to use this instead of social media in the future,” he said. “You can get alert notifications” by allowing notifications when downloading the app or by setting up notifications under the settings tab on your mobile device.
