The Chicago Bears ended the preseason with a 34-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, with quarterback Tyson Bagent putting in an excellent performance in the first quarter and proving why he is arguably one of the better backup players in the league.
With Caleb Williams and the starters rested in the finale, Bagent got the starting job and marched down the field with the offense on its opening series – a seven-play, 73-yard drive capped by a 5-yard rushing score by Bagent. The second-year quarterback’s best throw was a 44-yard pass to receiver Nsimba Webster, where he rolled left and threw a perfect pass on the run that was reminiscent of Williams’ impressive throw to receiver Rome Odunze last week.
Bagent only played in two series, completing 3 of 6 passes for 57 yards and a rushing touchdown. He looks like a solid backup quarterback in the NFL, which will be invaluable for the Bears as injuries are inevitable in this league.
As you can imagine, there has been a lot of support for Bagent on X (formerly Twitter), with some even believing there may be NFL teams calling Chicago about Bagent’s availability.
How the hell couldn’t Tyson Bagent get drafted, lol

I like the way Tyson Bagent competes, and the opening series showed a good passing game and underrated athleticism on the TD run. Bagent is coming off a solid preseason and his overall composure has obviously improved. Also a likeable guy. #TheBag

Tyson Bagent should be a starter in the #NFL.
On the first play he executes his progressions beautifully. 2/3 shows a very good feel for the football. The last play is my favorite where he baits the single-high safety to the left. pic.twitter.com/okJ5opTLBM

I know people like draft picks, but a backup as capable as Tyson Bagent is MUCH more valuable than a draft pick. I’m not trading him. I’m extending his contract extension.

After seeing this clip on Hard Knocks, I knew Tyson Bagent isn’t your typical UDFA backup. He has a good arm and the mental makeup to be a good quarterback. #Bears have a great AND affordable room. Year 2 📈

Yes, Tyson Bagent will not be on this team for much longer 😭

Tyson Bagent is ready for the regular season.

I love that Tyson Bagent is getting so much love, but I’m taking a victory lap here. I was one of the few who said he was a real player and even wanted the Bengals to sign him to replace Burrow.

Tyson Bagent delivered a masterpiece in the first quarter.
— Rand Matthews (@RandMatthews) 23 August 2024
Tyson Bagent is legit. The guy has developed so much in one year. D2 phenom to best backup in the league in year two. Will be a starter in 2-4 years.
– Seth Peterson (@sethpeterson1) 23 August 2024
Tyson Bagent would be the starting quarterback for at least five NFL teams.
– Brandon (@HeySadBoy1) 23 August 2024
I’m not kidding when I say that Tyson Bagent would be the Giants’ starting quarterback if he were on their roster.

Tyson Bagent shares are rising rapidly.
But I won’t trade him at all unless it’s a stupid offer for him. Far too valuable and far too good to be a replacement.
The kid is a buddy! #DaBears
