Coleen Rooney has decided not to leave the family home in Cheshire, even though her husband Wayne has taken over as head coach of Championship team Plymouth Argyle.
The club had announced Wayne Rooney’s appointment in May to replace Ian Foster. In a recent interview with Mail on Sunday, the former Everton and England star revealed that Coleen would not be accompanying him to the south west.
Instead, she will stay in her £20 million Cheshire mansion with her four sons Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass. A source told Closer that Coleen’s decision to stay in the north-west of England is aimed at strengthening her marriage.
The insider explained: “Coleen’s decision to stay up north while Wayne is in Plymouth was largely an attempt to help their marriage, although many thought it could be a sign that they were living separate lives. She is a housewife through and through and is happiest when she is in Cheshire.”
They added: “If either of them is unhappy with the living situation, they will argue and their marriage will suffer. Therefore, this is the best case scenario for both.”
This is not the first time Coleen has seen Wayne away for work; he moved to Washington to coach DC United in July 2022 after starting out as a player in 2018, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Coleen Rooney has never hidden her dislike for the US capital, a sentiment evident in text messages to Rebekah Vardy from 2018 that emerged during their much-publicised Wagatha Christie row. Coleen confessed that she “never believed in homesickness” until she moved to Washington, where she “cried every night” and longed for her family in the UK.
A source confided to Closer magazine that Wayne and Coleen Rooney stay in constant contact despite the geographical distance so that he does not feel separated from his four sons. The insider shared: “They constantly stay in touch via FaceTime so Wayne does not feel like he is missing out on anything.”
The source added: “It’s the best case scenario at the moment. Coleen is supporting him from afar and telling him how much she can’t wait to see him – she’s even planning a surprise trip for the two of them the next time he comes home.”
