‘The Repair Shop’ fans cry as guest tears up over ‘extremely moving’ restoration

Viewers of the popular BBC series The Repair Shop were moved to tears as they witnessed an emotional restoration segment that was hailed as “the most moving film yet”.

In Wednesday’s episode (21 August), viewers met Lesley and her daughter Nicola, who gifted the team a much-loved but worn fluffy cat toy named Jess. The toy had huge emotional value, particularly for Lesley’s foster son Colin, who they had been looking after since 2012.

Colin, now 12, suffers from Pierre Robin Sequence, a rare congenital disorder characterized by a small lower jaw, difficulty breathing, problems speaking and chewing, and dependence on PEG feeding. He also struggles with heart complications.

Jess has been more than just a toy to Colin; she has been his companion through countless hospital stays and surgeries. The cuddly cat stays by his side every night, providing him with comfort, although she visibly bears the signs of constant love and care, including the loss of upholstery and various repairs to the house by Lesley.

But despite these efforts, Jess desperately needed the help of experts, reports the Express. Jess’ transformation was so profound that it triggered great emotions among viewers.

Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell trusted the experts’ skill and expertise to ensure Jess was completely rejuvenated. Later in the show, tension mounted as Lesley and Nicola returned to the repair shop barn to witness Jess’ heartwarming revival.

When Colin saw Jess restored to her former glory, he was moved to tears – a moment that also touched fans at home.

On social media platform X, viewers couldn’t help but share their reactions to the heartwarming scenes, with one fan commenting: “Jess’ transformation has to be the most touching healing ever.”

Another posted: “Oh my god everyone who watches #therepairshop is going to get flooded. This was lovely.”

A third shared: “I’ve never seen this show, why am I crying? Colin and his cat loved it.”

Another viewer remarked: “Good God. It always works. Jess the cat and the beautiful Colin. The Welsh lady and her Hungarian ornament. We need a moment.”

And another added: “I suddenly have tears in my eyes when I see Colin getting his cat Jess back. What a beautiful moment, I don’t know how the ladies kept themselves together.”

“The Repair Shop” airs Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
