The situation is heating up, near record highs early next week

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

Hopefully you’ve been able to enjoy a little taste of fall over the past few days. Summer weather is returning and will continue through next week. Highs could reach 100 degrees early next week and rain is nowhere in sight. Unfortunately, drought has also returned to most of West Tennessee. Here’s the latest on drought concerns and your full weekend forecast.

Friday night:

The weather for tonight’s football game is going to be good, if a little hot. Humidity is still relatively low at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. The current temperature forecast for kickoff at 7 p.m. is 80 degrees here in Jackson. Heat index readings are only 2 to 4 degrees above the actual air temperature, and it will cool to above 75 degrees by halftime and fall to above 65 degrees overnight.

THE WEEKEND/NEXT WEEK:

Heat and humidity will increase over the weekend as temperatures climb back above 90 degrees and reach triple digits early next week. Winds will shift to a more southerly direction, bringing more moisture into the air, but unfortunately, rain chances will still remain near zero next week. Our first taste of triple digit temperatures will come on Tuesday, with a high of 101° forecast. Heat index readings will likely top 110° and could even approach 120°. The greatest chance of rain appears to be on Thursday, but the chance is less than 20%. Meteorological fall begins on September 1, so cooler temperatures are in the cards long term.Tuesday heat

Next week, stay cool, drink plenty of fluids, and stay indoors if possible. Take frequent breaks to avoid heat-related illness. With temperatures this high, illness can set in within minutes!
