The Smile shares video for new song “Don’t Get Me Started”

Radiohead’s side project quietly released a 12″ single for the studio version of the track – a live classic at their 2024 shows – to indie record stores last week.

Radiohead side project The Smile have released their new song “Don’t Get Me Started”, which was first secretly released as a vinyl-only release in independent record stores last week.

The track was paired with an animated video by audiovisual artist Weirdcore, who previously worked with Radiohead on a short visual for their A moon-shaped pool Title “Glass Eyes”.

Recorded at Oxford and Abbey Road Studios, “Don’t Get Me Started” was produced and mixed by Sam Petts-Davies, who also produced the band’s 2024 LP “The Smile.” Wall of eyesone of the best albums of the year so far. The song was originally premiered live on the band’s tour in support of that album earlier this year and was a staple of Smile’s now-canceled European tour.

The strictly limited edition 12″ single was accompanied by another new track, “The Slip,” which remains unstreamed and only available on vinyl.

The second part of The Smile’s European tour was scheduled to begin on August 7th to coincide with the release of the new single, but it was cancelled in July after guitarist Jonny Greenwood fell ill with an infection.

“A few days ago, Jonny fell seriously ill with an infection that required emergency hospital treatment, partly in intensive care,” the trio of Thom Yorke, Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner said in a statement. “Thankfully, he is now out of danger and will be returning home soon.”

The band added: “We have been advised by the medical team responsible for Jonny’s care to cancel all performances until he has had time to fully recover.”

Jonny’s brother and Radiohead bandmate Colin Greenwood added on social media a week later: “Now recovering at home watching reruns of Seinfeld – I’m so relieved he’s better…”
