The Traveling Wolf Center Comes to Hanson Nature Center – Mix 107.3 KIOW

The Friends of Winnebago County Conservation Foundation, in cooperation with the Winnebago
The County Conservation Board is hosting a traveling exhibit at the Hanson Nature Center in September. The exhibit is titled “Wolves and Wilderness” and is from the International Wolf Center in Ely, MN. The exhibit is open to the public throughout the month.
“Wolves and Wild Lands” tells the exciting story of wolves and their relationship with humans
to museums and other institutions across the country. The exhibition consists of six preserved
specimens, each presented in its human and natural history context. The species included are
the arctic wolf, the Mexican wolf, the coyote, the red wolf, the Rocky Mountain wolf and the prairie wolf.
Graphics provide regional information on each of these animals and provide a framework for in-depth discussion. Topics presented include the latest research and population statistics, but also the human perspective on what it means to live with or without wolves.
After Labor Day, the Hanson Nature Center will also resume regular opening hours. The center is open on
Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is also open on the first and third Saturday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The center will also remain open during other hours if someone is in the office. If there are times when the center must close during scheduled hours due to scheduling issues, those closures will be announced on the WCCB website and social media. In the future, hours will be expanded as more volunteers are recruited.
The exhibition “Wolves and Wild Lands” will be open to the public free of charge when nature
The center is open. There will also be an educational and interactive Zoom program from the International Wolf Center sometime in September. More information about this exciting event will be available soon!
