These songs by Lil Wayne, Drake, Chance and Eminem refer to the Packers

GREEN BAY – With the Green Bay Packers’ first regular season game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil just around the corner, it’s only right to highlight one of the Packers’ most famous fans: Lil Wayne.

With the New Orleans native set to perform in Milwaukee on October 19 and at a Packers home game on October 20, it’s possible fans will see the five-time Grammy winner at Lambeau Field.

Wayne has made many sports references throughout his career, including some about the Packers. Here is a list of some references from Wayne and his colleagues that you may not have heard:

1. Lil Wayne, “Get High Rule The World”

The line: “And I never miss a game, no Shaq O’Neal/ More like Brett Favre, just like Brett Favre.”

Wayne showed his Packers fandom early on in this 2007 song by referencing Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre and his perseverance. Favre never missed a game as a Packer, starting 297 NFL games and playing in 302 total. The praise for Favre, however, comes with a slight dismissal of NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal.

2. Drake, “Ignat S**t”

The line: “And I’m a cheesehead, a word to Vince Lombardi.”

It’s hard to say which NFL team Drake is a fan of, as he’s jumped on the bandwagon several times when it comes to sports, but he references Packers coaching legend Vince Lombardi to describe his infatuation with money.

Wayne, with whom Drake signed in 2009, can be heard on this track.

3. Chance The Rapper, “Good A** Intro”

The line: “Play the replays, Green Bay, Packers.”

The rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears is one of the most legendary in sports, even if it seems a little one-sided to Bears fans. Chance, a Chicago native and fan of the city’s sports teams, is referring to a team that many Bears fans have disliked for years.

What Chance means here in particular could be an allusion to the infamous “Fail Mary” chant from the “Monday Night Football” duel between the Packers and the Seattle Seahawks in 2012.

4. Eminem, “SHADYXV”

The line: “So hit me up, I’m coming right at you/ Like Clay Matthews from the Green Bay Packers.”

Eminem is a vocal Detroit Lions fan who has seen a lot of Clay Matthews over the years. The reference to the Packers’ soon-to-be Hall of Famer is in reference to the nightmares he gave opposing quarterbacks. Matthews holds the record for most sacks in Packers franchise history.

5. Lil Wayne, “A Milli (2023 ESPYs Remix)”

The line: “I open the Lamborghini and hope the Packers see me. Like, ‘Look at that Packer Wheezy!'”

Although it wasn’t an official song, Wayne used his appearance at the ESPYs to show his support for his favorite team by performing his Grammy-winning 2008 song at the annual sports awards ceremony. From references to Angel Reese to Coach Prime, Wayne made sure to mention several sports, including his favorite team.

6. Lil Wayne, “Green and Yellow (Green Bay Packers Theme Song)”

The line: “I’m Green Bay. If you don’t know, find out every day. Green and yellow, that’s forever, we go on without stopping.”

That was a given. When Wayne produced an updated version of this song in 2021, it came during a crucial playoff run by the Packers. He referenced a whole host of Packers players, including Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Preston Smith and Bart Starr.

Unfortunately, some of the players mentioned in the song are no longer with the Packers. Maybe this means Wayne needs to update?
