Thieves steal hair extensions from Gorgeous Hair Craigieburn

Thieves have stolen hair extensions worth over $100,000 from a salon in northern Melbourne.

The group backed a pickup truck into the garage of Gorgeous Hair in Craigieburn just after midnight on Saturday and drove straight into a wall of hair extensions.

Within three minutes, they had bundled hundreds of packs of real hair into a bag.

Due to the theft, the owner Aimen Choughari, who runs the store together with his wife, was left with no goods shortly before Christmas.

“You see on the news that this happens in cigarette shops, liquor stores or ATMs, but you wouldn’t think it would happen in a barber shop,” Mr Choughari said.

“It’s just bizarre.”

Mr Choughari and his wife sell the extensions to other salons. He said hair of various lengths and colours has been stolen from his shop.

Each package fetches around $250. Choughari believes the thieves may try to sell the packages at a reduced price.

“It could take a month to replenish our stock now before Christmas, so we won’t have anything to sell,” he said.

“That’s cowardly. No respect.”

The ute was found after being dumped in Greenvale.

The hair still needs to be restored.
