Course to promote education: 12:00-2:30 p.m. or 5:30-8:00 p.m., Family Resource Center 120 Main Street, Sterling. Free class with free meal and child care. Advance registration in person required.

Cards, billiards, chess, checkers, mah jong: 1:30 p.m., Heritage Center.

Barn Quilt Tee: 2 p.m., Overland Trail Museum. With Elsa Wolff as Annie Oakley. Tickets are $15 and reservations are required. Call 970-522-3895.

SilverSneakers Classic: 10 a.m., Heritage Center.

Pool: 1:30 p.m., Heritage Center.

Sterling High School Softball vs. Holyoke: 4 p.m., softball field at Pioneer Park.

Sterling High School Cross Country Meet: 4:00 p.m., Pioneer Park.

Under the umbrella of the LCC meal: 5 p.m., Prince of Peace Church, 201 Phelps St. Anyone in need of a meal is welcome.

Peetz High School Football vs. Potter Dix: 7 p.m., Peetz football field.

Sweet Adelines: 7 p.m., Sterling High School, 104 S. 4th St., Sterling. For ladies who love to sing.

Friday, August 30

Qigong: 10 a.m., Heritage Center.

Cards, cornhole, dominoes, billiards: 1:30 p.m., Heritage Center.

High School Volleyball Tournament: 4:00 p.m. Bank of Colorado Event Center on the NJC campus. Teams from area high schools compete against each other.

Saturday, August 31

Flea market: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., 104 S. 4th St. (behind Christ United Methodist Church), Sterling. Food vendors, home businesses, flea market items, fruits and vegetables and more.

International Overdose Awareness March and Community Resource Fair: Registration 8am, walk 8:30am, information fair 8:30am-3:30pm, lights lighting at 7:30pm to honor loved ones who have lost their lives to overdose or suicide, Logan County Courthouse Square. Organized by Milestone Community Wellness in collaboration with other community partners including Advocates for Recovery, NCHA, and New Pathways to Wellness and Recovery.

High School Volleyball Tournament: 8 a.m., Bank of Colorado Event Center on the NJC campus. Teams from regional high schools compete against each other.

Logan County Farmers Market: 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Bomgaars parking lot.

Caliche High School Football vs. North Park: 1:00 p.m., Caliche Football Field.

Heritage Center Dance Group: 6:30 p.m., Heritage Center. Cost: $8. Everyone is welcome.

Sunday, September 1st

Zion Congregational Church Soup Kitchen: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 5th Street and Chestnut. Come out the back door and down the stairs. Free. Meals will be served to anyone who is hungry and needs a hot meal.

Tuesday, September 3

Logan County Commissioners: 9:00 a.m., second floor conference room of the Logan County Courthouse.

SilverSneakers Classic: 10 a.m., Heritage Center.

Pool: 1:30 p.m., Heritage Center.

Sterling High School Boys Soccer Team vs. Roosevelt: 4 p.m., Tiger soccer field.

Peetz High School Volleyball vs. Potter: 4 p.m., Peetz gymnasium.

Game plan for the successful teen club: 5-7 p.m. Family Resource Center, 120 Main Street, Sterling. Free program for all middle and high school students. Homeschooled students are also welcome. Registration required. Registration is open anytime from August through May.

RE-1 Valley School Board: 6 p.m., Hagen Administrative Center.

Northeastern Junior College Volleyball vs. North Platte: 6:00 p.m., Bank of Colorado Event Center.

Bingo of the Knights of Columbus: 7 p.m., K of C Hall, 421 S. 11th Ave. The public is welcome.
