This is how much the Seattle Seahawks are paying their new center Connor Williams

When it was announced that the Seattle Seahawks had agreed to a one-year deal with former Miami Dolphins center Connor Williams, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the contract was worth up to $6 million in total. Compared to most NFL free agent contracts, it took a long time for the deal to become official and even longer for the numbers to be finalized.

Now we finally have the details on Williams’ new contract with the Seahawks. According to numbers available at Over the Cap, Williams’ contract actually has a maximum value of $4 million and his cap hit for the 2024 season is only $3.28 million. Only $2.98 million of that is guaranteed.

The new numbers for Williams’ contract mean that Seattle is in a slightly better financial position than expected. Over the cap, the Seahawks now have $8.34 million in salary cap space left for this year.

Another step for the Seahawks?

Most of the Seahawks’ roster is already set for 2024, barring any roster bubble battles that will play out throughout the rest of the preseason, but if the team is going to make another move before the regular season begins, it might be a good idea to sign a proven edge rusher, either via free agency or trade.

The best option on the free agent market is Yannick Ngakoue, who had just four sacks in 13 games with the Chicago Bears last season, but has 69 sacks, 142 quarterback hits and 71 tackles for loss in his career. As for the transfer market, Haason Reddick could be on the transfer list. He was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets a few months ago, but has since requested a transfer again. Reddick has recorded 11 or more sacks for four years in a row.

Unfortunately, both Reddick and Ngakoue will likely be just outside of Seattle’s price range. Their best bet might be to try Tyus Bowser, who would be cheaper and has experience under head coach Mike Macdonald in Baltimore.
