American track and field star Rai Benjamin won his second and third Olympic gold medals in Paris, but now that he’s back in the U.S., the New York native hopes his favorite NFL team will give him a chance to make his football dreams come true.
Benjamin is an avowed New York Giants fan and is open about his desire to play for Big Blue. Benjamin was recently a guest on NFL on ESPN, where he advocated for an opportunity to showcase his skills to the Giants.
The hurdler and sprinter said he was willing to sign a short-term contract. “I only want to sign a contract for one day.”

Benjamin said he would rather play on offense.

“That’s it — one day. I don’t need anything else. I’d sign a one-day contract. I’ll play offensive line, come on. That’s easy. Listen, if you (Giants) need me, I’ll tell you now, just let me know. I’ve got a pair of cleats in my closet at home.”
Benjamin is no stranger to the football field.
During his time at Mount Vernon High School, he played as a wide receiver. Benjamin also played defense and spent time at the safety position.
Eventually, he turned his focus to athletics. At this year’s Summer Olympics, he won gold in the 4×400-meter relay. Benjamin also won gold in the same discipline at the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were postponed due to COVID.
In Tokyo, he finished second in the 4×400-meter hurdles and won the silver medal, but this year he improved his performance in this event and won gold.
Benjamin’s speed could prove to be an advantage when he laces up his boots and plays as a wide receiver opposite rookie Malik Nabers.

Even if Benjamin only had the opportunity to participate in a single practice, he would probably be part of the fastest receiver group in the NFL.
