Songwriters in the U.S. can use TIDAL’s new songwriting tools to claim and manage their catalog, ensuring their royalties, including mechanical royalties, are correctly identified, attributed and collected.

“As a songwriter who produces his own music, TIDAL’s new songwriting tool makes a noticeable difference, giving me direct insight into my catalog and ensuring I receive the correct royalties,” said Singer-songwriter Sabrina Song.

Tools, teams and metadata

The new tools allow songwriters to set up a free TIDAL Artist Home account and organize their IPI, PRO (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc.) and publisher information in one place. Songwriters are also encouraged to sign up with the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC). Artists who sign up with a PRO for the first time can sign up with the digital PRO AllTrack.

On TIDAL, songwriters can view their works categorized into three groups: Completed Works, Works Without Recordings, and Unattributed Recordings. With collaborative split sheets, songwriters can achieve better rightsholder tracking and invite collaborators to sign their shares, allowing for better ownership documentation. Songwriters with teams can ask their managers and publishers to help them manage their work with the Team Roles tool.

Songwriters can also view and manage their credits and metadata in the TIDAL Artist Home to ensure their works are correctly attributed, registered, and eligible for payment.

“In today’s world, it is difficult to make music sustainably, especially for songwriters who must build and manage their identity in order to gain recognition and realize their earning potential,” said Agustina Sacerdote, Global Head of Product at TIDAL. “At TIDAL, we are committed to helping early-stage and self-directed songwriters develop their careers independently. For songwriters, a TIDAL profile is an easier way to understand and securely manage their credits to get fairly compensated.”
