The Indianapolis Colts begin the 2024 season today at home against the Denver Broncos in their first preseason game of the NFL season.
Indianapolis will be without Josh Downs, who suffered a sprained ankle in practice on Wednesday. The injury occurred when Downs was pulled to the ground by safety Nick Cross.
According to doctors at Washington University, players who suffer a severe ankle tear are often out for four to six weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. After four weeks, Downs would be ready to play the week the season opens.
In other news, coach Shane Steichen said the plan is to use most of the team’s regular players against Denver, including Anthony Richardson (though he may not be on the field for a long time).
“The regular players will play one or two series,” said Steichen. “And then we’ll bring in the young players and give them a chance.”
