CHILDREN’S THINGS: Detroit Tigers call up former first-round pick Jace Jung from Triple-A Toledo for MLB debut

Game Notes: The Detroit Tigers welcome the Bronx Bombers to town on Friday for the start of a three-game series, but only two of the games will be played at Comerica Park.

The Tigers and Yankees will conclude their series on Sunday night with a game in the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Tigers will feature American League Cy Young Award candidate Tarik Skubal as their starting pitcher.

Before that, however, the Tigers and Yankees will begin another bullpen-only game in Detroit, scheduled for Friday for AJ Hinch and his team. The final game of the series on Thursday against the Mariners was also a bullpen game, with Alex Faedo getting the start before giving way to Kenta Maeda. That leaves Hinch likely missing at least two of the pitchers he has at his disposal, although Faedo only pitched one inning on Thursday.

As the Tigers try to find their way in a bullpen game, they will face one of the league’s most potent offenses, especially at the top of the lineup. Aaron Judge is having another MVP-worthy season, with a .333 batting average, 43 home runs, and an incredible 1.174 OPS. Meanwhile, left-handed superstar Juan Soto has thrived with Judge’s protection behind him, hitting 34 home runs with a 1.052 OPS and leading the league in walks.

After trying to navigate the one-two punch of Soto and Judge on Friday, the Tigers will do so again on Saturday. Freshman Keider Montero will start for the Tigers at 1:10 p.m.
