Top 5 things to know about the Bills’ 2024 53-man roster

1. Boy from hometown makes good

Bills fans in western New York State were rooting for hometown prospect Joe Andreesen so hard today that they nicknamed him “Buffalo Joe.” The community’s enthusiasm for the Depew native and Lancaster High School graduate reached a real high point after an inspiring 12-tackle performance in Pittsburgh against the Steelers.

Andreesen was thrust into the starting lineup in the team’s second preseason game when Buffalo suffered injuries at linebacker Baylon Spector and Nicholas Morrow. With head coach Sean McDermott playing it safe and benching Terrel Bernard, Andreesen made the most of his opportunity.

He efficiently ran the defense and made plays in the run game, including two tackles for loss, and had some impressive tackles in the open field, including one on Pittsburgh quarterback Justin Fields.

That performance, coupled with a solid performance in the team’s final preseason game against Carolina last weekend, secured him a spot on Buffalo’s 53-man roster.

After that performance, McDermott expressed his confidence in Andreesen’s instincts and feel for the game.

This means that in addition to Ja’Marcus Ingram and Cam Lewis, there are three players from the University at Buffalo in the Bills’ squad.
