Travolta’s rented house in Westerville district sold for record price

A home on Hoover Reservoir that was once home to actor John Travolta has sold for $6.46 million, which appears to be the record price for a home in central Ohio.

The price includes an adjacent 15-acre lot, which the home, which was featured in The Dispatch last year, sold for $4.3 million, according to Zillow.

The 1,500-square-foot home off Duncan’s Glen Drive features a boat dock, lighted tennis and basketball courts, an 8-foot-wide, 1-mile-long path through the woods, an elevator, “underground parking,” a soundproof studio, a home theater, seven bedrooms and $1.5 million in upgrades since the last sale in 2017, according to the listing.

DeLena Ciamacco, who listed the home, said there was a lot of interest in the property.

“I had a constant flow of prospective and qualified buyers looking at this home,” said Ciamacco of RE/MAX Connections Realtors.

Built in 1994 by local car dealer Richard Roby and his wife Venus, the property served as Travolta’s temporary home in the spring of 2015 when the actor was in town to film I Am the Wrath.

The home was purchased by a company called WF Estate Holdings. Taylar Willard, a Cutler real estate agent who represented the buyer, said the buyer wanted to remain confidential.

Tartan Fields site sold for 54-home development

Another home in Delaware County, on Concord Road next to the Tartan Fields neighborhood, also just sold for $6.4 million, but its value was based on the property’s 29 acres, not the house itself. The property was purchased by patio home builder Epcon Communities for a development called The Courtyards on Concord, which includes 54 homes, two ponds, a clubhouse with a pool, a community garden and pickleball courts.

The Hoover Reservoir sale surpasses the previous high of $6 million set in 2013, when central Ohio businesswoman Tami Longaberger sold her 5,250-square-foot mansion on 200 acres near Nashport in Muskingum County.

Two other homes in central Ohio have sold for at least $5 million: A 17,771-square-foot home on New Albany Farms Road sold for $5.2 million in 2010; and a 11,134-square-foot home on Park Drive in Columbus sold for $5 million last year.

Other homes for sale in Central Ohio could set new records if they sell for the asking price. They include a house with a party barn in Delaware County that is listed for $6.95 million — below its original asking price of $7.9 million.

Several other homes in central Ohio would almost certainly set records if sold, including Les Wexner’s New Albany estate and a 22,000-square-foot home built several years ago overlooking Route 315 in Delaware County.
